Ext2Fsd is a file system driver for the Windows operating system developed to allow Windows to directly access, read, and write to Linux file system partitions, including Ext2, Ext3, and Ext4. Normally, Windows cannot detect or access these Linux file systems. Having this software helps dual-boot users running both Windows and Linux on the same machine, as well as those needing to extract data from a Linux hard drive through Windows, allowing them to conveniently access various files via standard Windows File Explorer.

In terms of key features and capabilities, Ext2Fsd supports both reading and writing data on Ext2, Ext3, and Ext4 partitions, along with an automatic mount point assignment system that instantly presents the partition as a new drive in the system. Additionally, it supports various character codepages—including UTF-8—to prevent file or folder name display errors in different languages. It also handles files larger than 4 GB, drive capacities up to 16 TB, HTree directory indexing, Ext4 Extents, and internal journal replaying for Ext3 upon mounting to minimize data loss risks, while also enabling cross-network file sharing via CIFS.

However, Ext2Fsd does have certain operational limitations.
