Ayam is a 3D modelling environment specifically designed for use with the RenderMan Interface. It supports a wide range of operating systems, including UNIX systems such as Linux and FreeBSD, Windows, and macOS.
The software stands out for its creation and handling of NURBS (Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines) geometry, including NURBS curves and trimmed NURBS surfaces. It also supports various basic shapes and advanced geometric forms such as spheres, cylinders, cones, toruses, hyperboloids, CSG, MetaBalls, and polygonal meshes, while being the first modelling environment to support Subdivision NURBS. Additionally, it features flexible modelling tools like extrude, revolve, sweep, and skinning.
For extensible capabilities and data management, Ayam supports importing and exporting files in numerous standard formats, including RIB, DXF, 3DM, 3DMF, OBJ, and X3D. It includes a scripting system compatible with Tcl, JavaScript, and Lua, allowing users to customize software behavior or program custom objects with dynamic user interfaces. The software also provides a complete suite of convenient features such as arbitrary modeling views, separate clipboards for objects and properties, a command console, and n-level undo support.
